This post is a work in progress and needs a full rewrite. I will update it with more info. The process and offers keeps changing. Credit Check Total aka CCT run by Experian is one of the better Credit Monitoring Services (CMS), but it has several quirks. One trick is to get unlimited free 7 day trials without any gaps in the Experian additional FICO reports. Each free trial comes with one 3 bureau report that you can pull at any time during the trial. Don't forget to use it before the trial ends or it is forfeit. I have had continuous CCT free trial coverage for over two years now, not counting the times where I either forgot or didn't bother to log in on any given day. CCT gives several scores daily: F8 the most commonly used, F2 the Experian mortgage score, FICO Auto 2 and 8, FICO Bankcard 2 and 8, and F3. Plus one pull of EQ-F8 and TU-F8 per free 7 or 30 day trial. When you go to the main login screen you should get an option for a free 7 or 30 day trial. Ignore the $1 trial offer. If you get the free 7 day option take it, if you get the 30 day option refuse and keep the basic membership. If you didn't get the 7 day option yet, log in and when you get to the member overview page there should be an option for a membership upgrade to the right of your score. If you received the 30 day offer before this may give you the option for a free 7 day membership now. As of around October 2021 they are also offering bundles, a $4.99 intro for the first month of Credit Works 30 day service, and $4.99 bundles for sets of FICO pulls for non members. Skip all of those. The choices seem to change frequently as of Fall 2021, hopefully they stabilize and keep giving us free trials. If you still didn't get a 7 day offer: Start the process to check your 3-bureau reports by going to the "Reports & Scores" tab and click either "Credit Reports" or "FICO Scores" from the drop down options, and then click "Review my 3 scores" and that should get you a free 7 day trial. Review my 3 scores.png If you still haven't gotten a free 7 day offer: Go to "Reports & Scores" tab and click "FICO Scores" from the drop down options, and then go to "Compare All". CCT Review All 3 FICO Scores.JPG The path you take to log in and get the free trial can vary, I will try and outline them in detail as I encounter them. If the steps I outlined above don't work keep bouncing around the various pages and attempt to view scores that you don't have access to, possibly try logging out and back in to refresh offers. The steps I usually take: 1) Go to https://www.creditchecktotal.com/ 2) Select member login 3) Sign in button (my info is auto filled by my browser) 4) I am now at the screen shot page and hit Submit Secure Order 5) My profile > Membership tab 6) Do you want to change your Experian CreditWorks℠ Premium Membership? *Click* Update online. 7) Select CreditWorks Basic > Pick 'Not worth the price too expensive' (I doubt that last part matters) I then keep my premium benefits for 11 days before repeating the process. Experian Free Trial.JPG After you have cancelled the free trial it will say at the top of the member overview page "When your subscription ends in 11 days, you will no longer be able to lock or unlock your credit report." Despite it being a 7 day trial it lasts 11 days. Seeing that banner is my reminder that I cancelled, if the banner says anything else I go and cancel.

** Reserved for more info **

CCT saves your reports for later viewing indefinitely as far as I can tell. That combined with the score tracker can make it easy to find old data points.

You can get back to this 'member overview' page by clicking on the colorful Experian logo in the upper left corner of the page. Trying to get to some of the more obscure pages in CCT can be difficult especially if you are looking at old reports, but it is doable.

Using the 'print report' button in the 'credit reports' screen will give you a lot of info on one screen, you can also optionally print your reports as a PDF for later viewing. This can sometimes be the only good way to compare older reports against other older reports depending on what info you are looking for.

The free trials come with credit lock, this is like a freeze but they don't make you fill out tedious forms again and again. It also doesn't have the legal protections of a freeze. When your free trial expires your account unlocks and you can't lock it again until you either pay for a membership or start another free trial. I think they should just let you freeze and unfreeze your report from the same window like Equifax does.

If you want a free EX-F8 score update during the day you can try boosting (with Experian Boost) your score, and then cancelling the boost, or cancelling and reboosting if you were using the boost before.

Boost helped me a lot when I was in the Dirty Mature scorecard with 15 points, (695-710) but it only gives me 3 points now (793-796) in the Mature, Thick, New Revolver scorecard.

Good post and information regarding CCT trials!

Is there any issue cancelling online, or is it effective 100% of the time? I recall years ago when I was doing CCT $1 trials several times a month that cancelling was sometimes difficult and that there were multiple phone numbers to try in order to cancel. It sounds like that roadblock may have been overcome since that time, which is a great thing.

Also, can you still cancel almost immediately? I used to sign up, then cancel right away just so that I wouldn't forget to do it within 7 days. I'd always get the response that the trial was cancelled, but the membership benefits were still available for 10 days. So really, which it's called a 7-day trial it was in essence a 10-day trial.

It also sounds like they've added more scores. I think back when I was doing the trials it was just the trio of F8s.

About a year ago I had an issue with cancelling online. The solution was to log out completely and log back in. It seemed like they were intentionally trying to make me call them, but relogging in got around that. I have so far never had to make a phone call to them for any reason.

I always cancel immediately and can still pull my 3 Bureau report days later and do anything else that the membership gives me.

Cool, so cancelling right out of the gate is still a best practice to avoid potentially forgetting and being charged.

I will add though that once or twice I was told I didn't cancel in time and was charged, but after contacting them they refunded the charge(s) promptly.

Do you recall at what point they started offering more than just F8 scores?

It seems CCT keeps changing. Now they are offering bundles of scores to those without their paid service or a free trial.

Experian still offers me a free 30 day trial every time I log in. It's their Identity Works that has a single 3-score pull a year and costs $14.95 a month regular price lol.

I miss the 10 day trials because the 30 day trials are 33 days so you can't pull once a month.

I doubt the $1 trials were ever necessary when I look back on how I used to sign up for them. I think a person who has never touched CCT could get unlimited free trials if they keep bouncing around the pages after logging in with a free membership. So far the 3-beuro reports have always given me a 7 day offer.

I have always just been comfortable doing it through Experian directly. It's not a big deal, I don't care as much about my scores now that they're over 760.

Just logged into Experian and it looks like they changed their interface a bit (for the worse IMO). I can no longer get back to old scores from the "FICO Scores" page, and I also cannot use the "compare all" tool. Fortunately, I can still see old scores from the "Credit Reports" page but I have to use the "print your report" to see the reason codes. Only one positive change is their score graph is a bit better.
