For VS3 only, a new credit file with a single revolving credit card account opened on July 31, 2021 will not age to 6 months on the 1st of January 2022 as it would with FICO scoring. VS3 will consider that account to be 6 months old on February 1st - a month later than FICO scoring. There are Vantage Score point gains from aging alone at 3 months and 6 months after establishing a new credit file. (For new visitors: Everything on a file can stay exactly the same - as is the case here - and scores will go up merely for reaching an aging threshold. There are several of these on FICO scoring models as well. ) +19 pts on a new credit file that just reached 6 months in age. CK TU updates have been slow for many lately, so it's not in sync with the EQ score here. (Also note that TU (VS3 705) has a single Hard Pull inquiry on file whereas EQ does not. A single inquiry on a new credit file costs 15 points and is the sole difference between these 2 different bureau credit files!) Same exact balance reporting as the prior month. 4% aggregate AND individual utilization, since there is only 1 account on file. ck-vs3-6mo-eq_gain.png

Good post and nice finding regarding aging being 1 month greater with VS compared to Fico.

Have you figured out what the cutoff is regarding the opening date of the account? I think you may have speculated previously that an account opened on (say) the 15th or later of the month would be seen for aging purposes as being opened on the 1st of the following month?

That was my best guess explanation for what's going on with this aging difference. Birdman is seeing the same thing with an account opened late in a month. I think Vantage Score uses a midpoint month date for the line and any opening date prior to that will be counted from the 1st of that month. My first 2 cards were opened on Dec 20 and Dec 23 in 2018. FICO says they are each 3yr 2mo old, and VS3 says 3yr 1mo. VS3 has never increased the age on the exact date of opening - only on the 1st of the next higher month. My next 2 cards were opened on Feb 14 and Feb 16 in 2020. FICO says they are each 2yr 0mo old, and VS3 says 1yr 11mo. Look at that February 14 date, though! Right in the middle for a February that's normally only 28 days, but that year was a leap year, so it was 29 days and 14 would be before the midpoint. I think their code doesn't make an exception for February in a leap year. I'd like to see what people have for VS3 aging with an account opening date of something like the 10th or 13th of a month. I believe it will match with what Experian CMS says for FICO aging.

I think your thought process is sound and that the middle of the month makes sense. The last 3 accounts I opened were on the 30th, 28th and 3rd of the month they were opened, so none of them are close to the mid point / good for testing. All do follow the age you suggested though if I consider the mid point of the month the threshold spot.

Adding to this thread that the 6 month aging threshold is alive and well. I opened my last 2 revolving accounts on Oct 12 and 14, along with my auto loan on Oct 20. I received a +13 point bump on May 1, as all accounts aged to 6 months. No utilization or other changes to my reports, so this is purely aging metrics.

A little off topic, but why the +13 gain on one bureau and +14 on the other? The scores being the same now makes sense, but I would think their starting points would have also been the same?

Yea, it's a little strange, but this is my best guess. After really studying both 3B and ACR reports, there is something different about a couple of my accounts in the way the payment history reports to TU. Somehow, the overall status of the account has been reported to TU, but not actual monthly payment history, yet that monthly payment history is present on both EX and EQ. The result is that my VS 3.0 scores never quite sync up, bc there is underlying different data reported to all 3 CRAs. Also to note, my TU report has 1 scoreable hard inquiry, where my EQ does not. So, logic would say my TU should actually be a little lower than EQ, but I believe the absence of payment history (some derogatory) on certain accounts actually 'helps' my TU score, and they somehow came perfectly together this month even though TU has a scoreable inquiry and EQ does not.

@Cassie OK check this out if an account was opened on the 10th, it is not counting it until the following month, if it was opened on the 7th, it is counting it. I do not have any accounts opened in between that to discriminate the cut off, so y’all help me if you’ve got an account that was opened on the 8th, 9th, go to Credit Karma and see what the age is and then see if that matches reality or is off by one month. I tend to believe if it’s the 10th or after it doesn’t count and I’m guessing that if it’s before the 10th of the month it does count, as I can verify it does for the seventh and it does not for the 10th. So 15th is not the cut off. I believe it’s the 10th.

Could be correct, bc my last 2 accounts opened on the 12th and 14th of October didn't age to 6 months until the 1st of May according to CK, and other VS 3.0 sites.

I went and looked up my VS3 aging so I may as well add my DPs to the VS3 aging question.

My dates match between FICO and VS3 to the 13th (my latest in the first half of the month).
My next date is the 24th which shows on month less age. As do the others after that.
