No AF transaction on USB Cash+

I thought this was strange and wanted to see if others have see this on their Cash+ or other non-AF card from USB. So my 1 year mark hit with them and there's a "transaction" listed on June 28 that states Annual Membership Fee ($0) and when expanding the transaction it has the same wording for description and "Annual Fee Charge" for the type.

I've got plenty of non-AF cards and never once have I seen a lender include a $0 "transaction" for the [lack of] AF. Anyone have thoughts on this? Is this just USBs way of reminding customers that they possess a no-AF card once a year?

US Bank is weird. I get a $14.95 monthly fee billed to my checking account every month and then it is immediately refunded too. I get a transaction alert email and everything.

That's very strange as well. Did you ever reach out to CS about that and if so, what was their response?

No, I heard on MF that it's just how they do things so I never questioned it any further. I make sure to keep more than that in there to prevent any issues with possible overdraft fees and just toss the email each month.

So odd to me.

I don't know of any other FIs with these type of oddities.

Could have sworn there was another that did it but it's escaping me right now.

My local bank charges and refunds a monthly fee every month. My understanding is that if I fall below the minimum balance or cancel my direct deposit the refund would stop.

I assume that your no annual fee may be an option chosen by issuer and if it becomes unchosen at some future point the refund part of the transaction would cease.

Could be. It just seems like an unnecessarily complicated way to handle it.

Yeah I think it's a similar case with US Bank. The Gold checking usually has a fee but it was free for me because of my credit score and now is free because I have a card with them.

So, speaking of USB checking accounts... I am wondering if I did something wrong or if I was supposed to sign up for something because I checked USB recently and my checking account was not even listed there amymore. I am guessing it was closed because of the monthly fee? I thought when you have a CC with them that checking was free? I hadnt used the account in awhile and apparently they had been taking monthly fees and so I had a $0 balance and they closed it? I am honestly surprised I got the auto-CLI with having a less than satisfactory banking relationship with them....the checking account had been closed prior to the CLI.

That is interesting. I'm surprised they didn't reach out or something. I honestly didn't even know that USB did checking accounts; I've never been targeted for one nor have I seen one advertised.

I'm glad you still grabbed that CLI though, that would have sucked to miss out on it because of some deposit account BS you weren't aware of.
