[Edit: Update March 2024 (2y8m old file) : TU8 still at 790 for this month's Bank of America update on the 19th. [Edit: Update January 2024 : EX8 jumped +5 due entirely to crossing the AAoA 2y6m threshold! Yet another data point confirming this threshold. TU8 still at 790 for this month's Bank of America update on the 19th. [Edit: Update December 2023 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 790 at 2 years and 5 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. Reporting utilization is exactly 4% of a $1,500 credit limit: $60.00. [Edit: Update April 2023 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 788 at 1 year and 9 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. [Edit: Update December 2022 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 778 at 1 year and 5 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. Link to Post --------------------------------------------- Bank of America updated my friend's TransUnion FICO 8 score on January 20th. Technically, she reached the 6 month threshold on January 1, having opened her BoA card on July 31, 2021. ( For general public information: FICO counts from the 1st of the month in which you applied and were approved for an account.) So here it is: 1 single credit card account on a clean credit file that is only 6 months old. (EDIT: Reported utilization is 4% of a $1,500 credit limit. ($64/1500 = 4.3%, which is 4% since FICO uses standard midpoint rounding.) Also keep in mind that this score includes a single inquiry from BoA when she applied for this card. A single inquiry in the first year of having a credit file can easily cost 10-20 points! I saw this on my own file when I got my first 2 credit cards: -20 points on EX8 for the first inquiry! TransUnion (TU) FICO 8 score is 750 !! Note that TU has her only inquiry so far, and later we found out that a single inquiry cost -21 points. [ Link to report here , showing the jump from 750 to 771 after the single inquiry aged to 1 year. ] This is a typical loss for new credit files! It doesn't happen to much older files, where the loss can be only 1-3 points. This first credit score could have been 771 on the TransUnion version of the FICO 8 score model. (Each CRA has some customization done on the base model for product differentiation.) tu8-1_card_at_-6mo-jan22-full.png This answers some commonly searched for questions: When will I have a credit score? After 6 months. What will my credit score be after I get my first credit card? It can be 750, as shown here. How soon will I have a good credit score? In 6 months, as shown here. How long does it take to get a good credit score? 6 months, as shown here. You can start with a credit score of 750 after 6 months. What credit score do you start with? Answer: Around 750 or more.

Did you ever see Credit Karma update the age on the exact day? I've always seen it update on the 1st of the following month. The age of that account is always a month behind what FICO reports on the 3B.

It’s been months since I looked, but based on memory my answer is yes. Big caveat: I don’t base any of this on score changes. I don’t have any confidence I can often identify the source of changes in my VS3 score. So I’m putting all my faith in the applicable CMS — CreditKarma for TU and EQ, Credit Journey (via Chase) for EX. Like everyone, I have a bunch of other CMSes that give me a TU VS3 score and report (the ones used by Amex, Navy, US Bank and probably others that I haven’t even bothered to remember). So I could probably cross-check CK’s TU aging numbers there, but I’ve never actually tried it. I’ll see if I can gather some data to back up or refute my sense of how it works. This seems pretty far off topic for this thread. Is there a better thread to use to discuss VS aging calcs?

Yeah, later I'll move some of our posts over to a new topic in the VS3 area. We'll figure this out when more people input their account details in the aging calculator. So far, it looks like anything after the 13th is when Vantage Score models will use the 1st of the following month. My friend's account that I'm reporting on in this thread is still at 11 months old according to Credit Karma TU/EQ daily updates. Opened on July 31, 2021, so I'll check it again on Sunday (31st) and Monday (1st).

I have not noticed any difference on F8s with a [clean] No New Revolver verses New Revolver scorecard. My EX8 still seems completely bulletproof to AWB changes on a New Revolver scorecard as it has been for years. Going from AZEO to all AWB doesn't budge that score a single point. TU8 and EQ8 are of course still impacted by AWB changes, but I don't see the impact being any more or less between these two scorecards. The general variance I see between AZEO and all AWB with TU8 and EQ8 is around 11-15 points.
I haven’t finished reading the thread but I would note scorecard change can cause a score to go either way depending on the rest of the profile factors and I would also note that BBS, you’re on a mature scorecard and a thick one that’s why your bulletproof whereas they are on a young thin card. Are y’all looking for aging points or scorecard reassignment points? reassignment will happen on the first, as well aging. I’m sure y’all have figured that out, I haven’t got that far yet. What a shame she would not let you get a pull, if you could get a pull this month that would be so awesome a three bureau pull. Can she be bribed? @Cassie ?

My score on EX in March, when I hit 1yr was bumped to 742 from 739 the previous month. April I hit 752, so if I got anything from my oldest account hitting one yr is was in April. My first card was opened the end of March 2021 though. Not sure this will be helpful for anyone as I signed up for cards Willy nilly throughout my first year.
That could be age of oldest revolving account most likely or AoYA For March, and reassignment for April, imho, without more.

My first two bankcard accounts were opened on the 20th and 23rd of December 2018. In January 2019, my MF 3B showed them both at 1 month old. They aged to 1y0m on December 1st, 2019, according to Experian's CMS that has daily updates. On December 10, 2019, my MF 3B showed both of those accounts at 1y0m at all 3 bureaus. (Must have ticked over to 1y0m on December 1st across the board.) My AoOA was 2y0m when my AoORA was 1y0m. (AAoA 1y4m, AAoRA 1y0m) I saw EQ8 +4, TU8 +4, and EX8 +6, all with same reporting balances as the prior month. Maybe I lost some points with the addition of a second card, and then got them back with those gains? My friend obviously didn't lose anything with a single card.
No you did not lose additional points for the additional card. The difference is she started with a revolver, age of oldest revolving account is one metric, plus the average age of revolving accounts. Then scorecard reassignment will be based on the most recent revolver. When you hit oldest account one year and two year your revolver wasn’t that old.

This theory sounds right to me. It would be redundant to ding a young file for having a single new account. They all do. They have to. By definition. The data set of newly scorable files with zero accounts — which you would need in order to determine how much additional risk is added by the additional of one new account — is empty. I don’t have any doubts about how FICO calculates account age. It’s on the first of the month. What, aside from Cassie’s friend’s unchanged score is causing y’all to question this? Vantage is different. I think I see on my Vantage-based CMSes that it calculates account ages based on the actual day-number on which the account was opened. E.g., an account opened on May 11, 2021 turns 6 months old on November 11, 2021. I can gather evidence for this if people care.
The penalization for the new account on a new profile is built-in with the new Revolver Scorecard. It’s not penalizing further, its simply calculating based on scorecard and that’s the scorecard they land in having 1 or 15 new accounts. Agreed first of the month for fico. We had a thread about vantage I narrowed it down between the 10th and the 13th. I don’t think we narrowed it further.

If she did not get any points when her oldest account aged to 12 months, I’m not tremendously surprised. Age of the oldest account is a segmentation factor, not a scoring factor. However we know the age of oldest revolving account gives points, we just don’t know the thresholds and this is why it would be great to get that data now that the first has passed and see if it’s changed.

But weren’t both accounts also opened in the same month? So reassignment will be conflated with any aging gains anyway and AoYA could’ve given points.

Any score change on the first or afterwards we know of? because the scorecard reassignment even with other factors should’ve caused some score change but I guess we won’t see that until this month‘s scores are posted now that I think about it.

So we will see it when this month gets posted unless we can convince her to let you do a three bureau pull.

They sure did! Thanks for the remind, @Justaguy ! EDIT: Scratch everything below....IT'S THE SINGLE INQUIRY AGING OFF! I completely forgot about the single inquiry on TU8 that she got on July 31st. End result: No 1yr0mo aging gain, and +21 from a SINGLE INQUIRY. Very harsh on new files, exactly as I experienced with my first few inquiries on a new file. /END_EDIT This is all so weird....we need to figure out what's going on behind the scenes with these BoA updates, because people using these for score changes are going to have some mismatched aging/balance values. Here is the expected gain from 1yr0mo, but it's happening a month later on this BoA update. It says 'As of 8/19', but only showed up today, 8/25. Technically the FICO age is 1yr1mo for everything, since there is only 1 account on file. This HAS to be from aging to 1yr0mo. +21 on TU8, from 750 to 771 with only a single revolving bankcard on file. Reporting the same 4% as last month (and the month before that as well) - $64 of $1500 credit limit.

My friend is getting a TON of mail from American Express and Discover now! lol Blue Cash Everyday and the It Cashback card. Same thing happened to me after I had my first 2 credit cards for exactly 1 year and 0 months. (For anyone in this position now: I recommend applying for the Discover card before the AMEX card, to get a better limit from Discover.)

Hey @Cassie , question for you. I'm trying to remember back to when you started your file... wasn't it with a loan and not a revolver? If so, do you recall what your first F8 (TU would be awesome) score was at 6 months? I'm just sort of trying to wrap my head around the difference between someone starting their file with a revolver relative to an installment loan and where their scores would debut at 6 months of age. We know from this thread 750 is possible for TU8 with 6 months and 1 revolver at low utilization, but I'm curious about how much lower it would be with an installment loan at A - near full utilization (a "real" loan) or B - at optimal utilization (a SSL type loan). Any thoughts?

The chart of my scores from 11mo to 1yr1mo is here: viewtopic.php?p=2411#p2411 11mo AoOA/AoYA is the first time I saw a FICO 8 score, and it was from a myFICO 1B TransUnion report. On TU8, it was 666 at 11mo and also at 1y0m. There were 2 inquiries under 1 year at TU, and these cost a lot on a new credit file. (-21 points for 1 inq we saw here on my friend's file.) There was no point gain at the 1y0m threshold with a single secured loan on file, and the same thing was observed in this thread with a single revolving account on my friend's file. Revolving accounts are definitely worth more than loans in the FICO 8 algorithm.
