Link to Post --------------------------------------------- Bank of America updated my friend's TransUnion FICO 8 score on January 20th. Technically, she reached the 6 month threshold on January 1, having opened her BoA card on July 31, 2021. ( For general public information: FICO counts from the 1st of the month in which you applied and were approved for an account.) So here it is: 1 single credit card account on a clean credit file that is only 6 months old. (EDIT: Reported utilization is 4% of a $1,500 credit limit. ($64/1500 = 4.3%, which is 4% since FICO uses standard midpoint rounding.) Also keep in mind that this score includes a single inquiry from BoA when she applied for this card. A single inquiry in the first year of having a credit file can easily cost 10-20 points! I saw this on my own file when I got my first 2 credit cards: -20 points on EX8 for the first inquiry! TransUnion (TU) FICO 8 score is 750 !! Note that TU has her only inquiry so far, and later we found out that a single inquiry cost -21 points. [ Link to report here , showing the jump from 750 to 771 after the single inquiry aged to 1 year. ] This is a typical loss for new credit files! It doesn't happen to much older files, where the loss can be only 1-3 points. This first credit score could have been 771 on the TransUnion version of the FICO 8 score model. That was a +21 point gain, completely in line with what I observed with my first inquiries on a new credit file. There is something I'm missing with that 1y4m to 1y5m gain, and I think 1y4m might have been All Zero reporting. I need to double-check that. I also need to get balances reporting for 1y6m through 1y8m (Jan23 to Mar23). I think it was 5% all those months. She has $0 reporting for this month, June, and there's the All Zero loss: -12 points. (She only gets 2 score factors from Bank of America.)

I still don't fully understand that +12 jump at 1y5m. I'm missing something there. Maybe something happened at 1y3m (Oct) when she let something around $300+ report. 1y3m could have been the first time to see 778, with utilization in the optimal 1-4% range. (For new credit files only, that's the best.)

I finally convinced her to set up a basic, free account at Experian. She's right on the 2 year AoOA threshold as of July 1st. Experian FICO 8 is 765 and this is with All Zero reporting. (All = the only account on file - a Bank of America unsecured card.) Image

Yeah, it's crazy how an infinite amount of wildly different profiles can produce the same or nearly the same Fico score. I do sort of see it as a "flaw" in the Fico scoring system to some degree. I get it that we're dealing with scorecards and such, but maybe those scorecard ceilings should be revisited. A ceiling of 790 or so on a clean/thin/young scorecard seems a bit outrageous to me.

I think that single account probably makes her look more like a 720 to most lenders.

EX8 was 765 on July 6th, at All Zero. (All meaning the single revolving account on file.) The BofA statement closing was on the 8th. Somewhere between that date and the 19th, the reported balance changed to 8% ($124 of $1500) and this happened: Image This confirms an EX8 AZ loss of -20 points, with a single account on a 2y0m old clean file. The free BofA TU8 update hasn't happened as of this afternoon (the 24th), so expect that in a few days.

TU8 update, switching from All Zero to 8% utilization. ($124/$1500, individual/aggregate since only 1 account on file.) 776 to 784, so +8. This is a CLEAN/YOUNG/THIN/NO-NEW-REVOLVER scorecard, which has a 5% threshold where a small loss occurs with a change from 1-4%. That loss looks to be -4 points. (May 788 at 4%, then June 776 at 0%, did not recover all -12 points this month at 8%.) Image

Hey @Cassie are there any updates to this? Wondering what the AoYRA is now (2y1m perhaps?) and if it's still a single card profile / has F8 changed at all? Was there a score gain at 2y1m AAoA? I'm wondering if that 788 was able to tick up a bit perhaps at an oddball place as I know at 1y5m (seemingly not a threshold point) a gain was realized.

Nothing happened on the 2y0m mark in July. Now at 2y2m for the free BofA TU8 update on September 19. The August update was a 5% to 4% change ($60 of $1500) and the 4 points on TU8 came back as expected! 784 to 788. So here we are, 2y1m in at 788 with a single, unsecured bankcard on a clean file.

A 2y3m update with $0 reporting (All Zero). Last report in September was with $60 reporting - 4% ind/agg utilization. This is interesting because a previous loss with AZ was -12, and now it's -10. The previous loss was at 1y11m and this one is at 2y3m. Now I'm wondering if this has something to with that AoORA 2y0m graph/slide that Birdman and I found in a FICO PDF document. I mean, could it be the loss for this is less after that threshold, on TU8? Just something to watch in the future if we get a chance with a similar file. Image The EX8 AZ loss is still -20 points, same as it was at 1y11m. It went from 785 at 2y2m with 4%/$60 reporting to 765 now at 2y3m with $0 reporting. Image

Maybe there is something to that AoORA theory. My two all zero penalties were also 12 points on TU8 and both were with an AoORA less than 2yrs. I'm just hitting the 2yr mark next month, but I'm done playing with all zero.
