I think Visa figured out they can make money in a B2B model selling access to the MCC codes to other businesses to provide this information as a service to their consumers/customers. So you no longer have access, unless you make a business account! So that really sucks we need to find another way to determine a business’ code. It’s my understanding some of the apps will tell a category, but then you have to cross-reference it for the numerical code.

Is this super recent? I will check tomorrow. As a note we I just changed processors for our CC’s this week (months of looking at rates and transaction fees) and am starting to get a firm understanding of how the swipe side works (AMEX is king of percentage). When I have a moment I will reach out to see if my processor has a l resource for MCC.

@mickvain yeah they just took it off-line this month I believe it was a 404 page now it’s basically an advertisement for B2B access. Good news is you can make a business account and access it, I think for free, but if you want to provide it for your customers, I think they charge now. That’s the feeling I’m getting, but I can’t confirm that; that’s what it looks like though. As a matter of fact I do have a resource to look up AMEX codes, tho!! I’ll make a thread for it!
