The friend of a friend that I took to Bank of America for her first credit card just got her first credit score ever. She called me to ask about something and I told her to create an account with Credit Karma. I did it for her on my computer and got the following: vs3_at_2_months-zero_aggregate.png I checked everything to see why there is a difference on TU and EQ, and I can't see anything anywhere EXCEPT for the 'Last Payment Date' which shows August 17 on TU and August 1 for EQ ! 15 point difference....very strange. I just realized why....the single inquiry on TU whereas EQ has zero! -15pts for a single inquiry, which is right around what I experienced with my first inquiries on a new credit profile. Here's the really cool thing: there is $0 reporting and the single account age is only 2 months. That 3 month boost on VS3 is very real and very good. I saw it myself when I got my first credit card and it reached 3 months age in April 2019. It was +44 points across the board with very little change in aggregate balance from 2mo to 3mo, same 2-of-2 reporting a balance, 6 to 5% aggregate change, $510 to $425 total balance. All she has to do now is put a small charge on it and let that report along with the new 3mo age. This is going to be good!

I think it comes down to: "If the opening date is prior to the midpoint of the month, use the 1st of that month for aging calculations." ..else... "Use 1st of the following month." And that's why some people see a 'lag' with VS3 aging compared with FICO. Have to admit, FICO is pretty generous with that 'always take the 1st of the month no matter what'.

I've always wondered why it's done that way. I would think it would make the most sense to just go by the date of the month. You arrive at that date the following month and you legit have an account that's aged 1 month by definition. The 1st of the month thing seems a bit odd to me.

We checked my friend's CK account today because Nov 1 should be 3 months VS3 age for her single credit card account. EQ VS3 only went up +1 point...wow, thought it would have been much more, like I saw when I got my first credit cards. But TU VS3 stayed the same? Usually VS3 gains/losses are the equal across all 3 bureaus. There is something different between her report and mine, though. Hers only shows 2 checkmarks so far for payments (Aug and Sep). I'm wondering if that has to be 3 for the major boost I saw at 3mos VS3 aging? (Single $1500 limit credit card on a file that is only 3 months old according to VS3, but 4 months old for FICO. Account opened on July 30th, 2021.)

While the aging factors would increase with TU/EQ at the same time, maybe a reported balance or something is different between the 2 bureaus based on the time the scores were generated?

It's showing $0 for both. She just put a $300 charge on it last week, but we don't even know when it closes now because she can't even activate the BofA mobile app due to some technical issue with the number used for SMS text activation. (I think they have an old number of hers in a separate part of the system. She can sign in with username/password but can't get past the SMS verification because she never receives it, and no one at BofA has been able to figure it out yet.) She never got a statement in the mail, probably because it was always $0 reporting. She would charge something under $100 and go pay it within a few days right at the local branch!

If someone gets a new card and sees a dip on VS3, they are likely to see most of that come back at either 3mo or 6mo. Thomas_Thumb's graph from a VS3 PDF only showed the gain at 3mo, but I've seen it twice now at both 3mo and 6mo with VS3. So 3mo and 6mo thresholds. Did your EQ VS3 score recently lose points after new cards showed up on your file? I'm using EQ here because you said most of the inquiries were on EX. I'm just wondering how profiles with longer credit history react to new accounts on VS3.
I'll certainly try to keep an eye on mine. My new accounts from my spree are starting to report, and I've seen some score loss on VS3. Will be interesting to see if there's a rebound at 3 or 6 months.

@Cassie if the files are exactly the same on VS3, the scores will be exactly the same across bureaus, as you said there is a difference.

My own Credit Karma TU report is stale now. It hasn't updated since September, but they keep reminding me that it's 'Updated Daily' now like WalletHub does. It's still showing my credit union Mastercard with a $2000 limit instead of the new for October $3000, and also a reported balance of $180 (9.00% exactly), which means I'm at 4-of-4 with a balance. Interesting that I only lose a single point on VS3 at 4-of-4 reporting a balance, everything at or under 9%. (769 TU, 770 EQ).

On CK, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how often my TU updates anymore, but @Cassie did you say yours is stale from September? Mine just updated yesterday. I have noticed that if I click on the TU score, and then click on the 'view full credit report' it will sometimes pull a new update that just going to the home screen doesn't trigger. My EQ updates like clockwork weekly.

My TU and EQ reports are seemingly identical, but there must be something a little different in how my 2 last reporting baddies with balances have been reported/coded (late payments before CO, etc) bc my TU and EQ VS3 scores never match even though the reports are seemingly identical.

-10 points at 283/1500, 19% aggregate, single revolving account at 3mo.

This is her first under 700 VS3 score. 694 TU, 709 EQ.

We still haven't seen her highest possible VS3 score at 4% util.
