[Edit: Update March 2024 (2y8m old file) : TU8 still at 790 for this month's Bank of America update on the 19th. [Edit: Update January 2024 : EX8 jumped +5 due entirely to crossing the AAoA 2y6m threshold! Yet another data point confirming this threshold. TU8 still at 790 for this month's Bank of America update on the 19th. [Edit: Update December 2023 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 790 at 2 years and 5 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. Reporting utilization is exactly 4% of a $1,500 credit limit: $60.00. [Edit: Update April 2023 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 788 at 1 year and 9 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. [Edit: Update December 2022 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 778 at 1 year and 5 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. Link to Post --------------------------------------------- Bank of America updated my friend's TransUnion FICO 8 score on January 20th. Technically, she reached the 6 month threshold on January 1, having opened her BoA card on July 31, 2021. ( For general public information: FICO counts from the 1st of the month in which you applied and were approved for an account.) So here it is: 1 single credit card account on a clean credit file that is only 6 months old. (EDIT: Reported utilization is 4% of a $1,500 credit limit. ($64/1500 = 4.3%, which is 4% since FICO uses standard midpoint rounding.) Also keep in mind that this score includes a single inquiry from BoA when she applied for this card. A single inquiry in the first year of having a credit file can easily cost 10-20 points! I saw this on my own file when I got my first 2 credit cards: -20 points on EX8 for the first inquiry! TransUnion (TU) FICO 8 score is 750 !! Note that TU has her only inquiry so far, and later we found out that a single inquiry cost -21 points. [ Link to report here , showing the jump from 750 to 771 after the single inquiry aged to 1 year. ] This is a typical loss for new credit files! It doesn't happen to much older files, where the loss can be only 1-3 points. This first credit score could have been 771 on the TransUnion version of the FICO 8 score model. (Each CRA has some customization done on the base model for product differentiation.) tu8-1_card_at_-6mo-jan22-full.png This answers some commonly searched for questions: When will I have a credit score? After 6 months. What will my credit score be after I get my first credit card? It can be 750, as shown here. How soon will I have a good credit score? In 6 months, as shown here. How long does it take to get a good credit score? 6 months, as shown here. You can start with a credit score of 750 after 6 months. What credit score do you start with? Answer: Around 750 or more.

(I promise I will NOT edit this post to make myself look better tomorrow. LOL)
I share your eagerness to see score updates — I think when I wake up tomorrow I will get the result of my test on EX2 and I’m considering going to bed early to shorten the perceived wait — but if your friend gets her score solely from BofA, she might have to wait a few more days. My scores from them are typically dated as of the 21st, but they aren’t published until the 25th.

Oh I completely overlooked the fact that we never checked it on the 21st (updated date shown in the portal) and always at least a few days later. @BrutalBodyShots : The inquiry date at TU for that card is July 31st, so this score update will not include any gain from the inquiry aging to 1 year. We'll get that inquiry gain data point next month with the August 21st update from Bank of America. Monthly reporting balance on this card has consistently been $64, which is her monthly T-Mobile autopay. That's 4% util, so it's optimized. (1 through 4 is the sweet spot on new credit files. 5% causes a small loss at every bureau, from -3 on EX8 to -5 on EQ8. Multiple data points from my own file under 2 years in age. Hers has never reported above 4% since the first score at 6 months.)

Sure, we might as well get that data point as well! You're on a roll now! lol I can't convince her to sign up at Experian.com for the free, monthly EX8 score. I even offered to pay for a 1 month subscription at MF to see what all 28 scores look like at 1y0m. Some people just don't deal well with 'another thing to worry about'.

Day 2 (July 23rd): Bank of America still hasn't updated the TU FICO 8 score that will eventually show that it updated on July 21st. From this afternoon at Credit Karma: VS3 TU is at 730 with a single inquiry. VS3 EQ is at 743 with 0 inquiries. 4% util, both individual and aggregate, everything the same at both bureaus except for that single TU inquiry. Also, the single account was opened on July 31st, and as expected the VS3 age of 11 months is 1 month behind FICO's.

Thanks @Justaguy ! This one says 'As of 7/20/2022' whereas yours is 'As of 7/19/2022'. Interesting. A single revolving bankcard account on a brand-new file, aging to exactly 1 year for both AoOA and AAoA: NO SCORE CHANGE!?!? Still at TU8 750 ! ( Note: Same utilization reporting this month as last month: 4% with equal dollar balances. )

Next month, around August 20th 25th, we'll see how much the single inquiry cost at TU. That inquiry ages to 1 year on July 31, or 6 days from now.

Looking at that made me feel almost the same as when I lost $333 on a Superbowl bet this year. @Justaguy : Have you ever seen a mismatch in the BoA provided score compared to one you got elsewhere? They don't show what aging values were used for the score, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be 1y0m for everything: AoOA, AoORA, AAoA, AAoRA, AoYA, and AOYRA. I mean, the first score was updated on January 20th, which is at 6 months age for FICO score models. (Opened on July 31, so going from July 1st.)

Like most Fico scores provided, the one by BoA is date stamped at the time the report data was pulled... so I'd imagine so long as it is at or later than the date of 1y0m that the aging metrics would be seeing the correct/updated value?

I have not. It’s always been consistent with MF. I don’t think I’ve gotten TU8 scores anywhere else. I’m as stumped as the rest of y’all. Maybe there were gains and losses that, just coincidentally, exactly offset. There’s a scorecard change, from New Revolver to No New Revolver, right? That could take away some points. Could it be enough to cancel out all the gains? I have no idea.

Have there been reports that moving from a New Revolver to a No New Revolver scorecard can result in a score loss? I always thought it had to be a gain, that is, that the low end of the No New Revolver scorecard was equal to or greater than the high end of a New Revolver scorecard. I guess thinking about it in reverse, if one were to experience a score loss in moving from a New Revolver to a No New Revolver scorecard, that would mean one should have experienced a score gain from the opposite in moving from a No New Revolver scorecard to a New Revolver scorecard, no? Of course that could easily be conflated by the addition of a new account, inquiry, etc. I'm not talking about the net change though, just the isolated scorecard change being the only real variable.

I’m not claiming to know the real answer; just spitballing. My perspective on scorecard changes got rocked when @Cassie made the transition from Young to Mature. That was at AoOA = 36m and she lost something like 20 points, right? I thought of that as a big fish in a small pond situation, where the fish moves to a bigger pond. Maybe that’s a flawed mental model. My point is, the evidence has not always fit with my intuition when it comes to scorecard changes. I’m now open to the idea that scorecard changes one generally views as positive can have a negative effect on scores, particularly in the short run.

I definitely agree with the one regarding AoOA @ 36 months as that's been documented many times of course with Cassie being one of the main ones. I was just curious if there was any actual reports or evidence of the move to a No New Revolver scorecard from a New Revolver scorecard resulting in a score drop.
