Overnight, I think I went from one inquiry on EX to zero. My EX2 jumped up 11 points, from 802 to 813. No other changes to my report. I say “I think” because there were two HPs on 6/29/2021, but both were related to a car lease and both coded as Auto, so I assume they were consolidated to one for FICO purposes. I’m surprised the gain was so large. I think I only lost 5 points when these inquiries showed up (actually a month later because of the consolidation feature, but you get the point). I don’t know what accounts for the asymmetry. EX8 didn’t budge when these inquiries appeared and it didn’t budge when they aged to a year. So I seem to get one free inquiry there. I’ve been eyeing a BofA Unlimited Cash Rewards card, and they pull EX for me. It would almost be a waste not to use my free HP…

Nope. Well… maybe, sorta. I’ve been on Clean/Thick/Mature/With New Accounts continuously since like 2019. BUT, @Birdman and @Cassie have theorized the existence of sub-scorecards, and there is some evidence I changed sub-scorecards a couple months ago when my lone 30D aged to 4y6m. Personally, I’m skeptical that particular change could explain the difference between a -5 and a +11. That would imply credit seeking is less risky in people with a recent 30D than an older one. That seems impossible. I don’t recall how clean the data was on my -5. I’ll have to take a closer look at that.

Yeah I guess I'd look into the -5 if you're certain that the +11 is clean. I have not seen any other clean data points on both ends suggest anything other than a -X / +X.

No I don’t believe any subdivisions of a scorecard from payment history could’ve cause a change to new credit. Definitely something else going on there in my opinion.
