I know we've discussed the presence of top end buffer present for different scoring models, mostly Fico 8, so I wanted to provide a little data based on my EQ F8 score.
Back in 2018-2019 just before hitting solid 850s across the board, I did a test in going from AZEO to NZ back to AZEO to track my scores based on number of reported balances on my [then] 7 revolvers. It was at that time that I first documented EX8 being bullet proof to AWB changes, where TU8 and EQ8 showed movement. EQ8 for me moved 11 points in moving from AZEO (optimized) to NZ (least optimized); EQ8 optimized was 847 at the time, 836 least optimized based on AWB.
Fast forward to today and I realized for a while now I've possessed an 850 on EQ8, but in the least optimized state. This suggests to me that I have at least an 11 point buffer in place if I were to move to AZEO, effectively giving me an 861+ score. I'm guessing I could take on an inquiry or two and still display an 850 score with that buffer built in.
Just looking at some basic profile changes between "then" and "now" to consider:
AoO(R)A - 18y3m vs 22y4m
AAoA - 6y11m vs 8y6m
AoYRA - 2y1m ironically the same both times
7 revolvers then (all credit cards) and 10 revolvers now (9 credit cards, 1 unused HELOC)
That's about all I can think of noteworthy. It's also worth noting that for the first test I used all tiny reported balances on the 7 revolvers at the time (2-digit balances for the most part) so maybe $200-$300 in total revolving debt just estimating, where my 9 revolvers currently have naturally reported balances of around $4k combined currently. I'm likely incurring a small penalty (maybe 3-4 points) based on raw dollars now that I wasn't realizing with tiny reported balances then.
