So my AoYA (AoYRA) dropped from > 4 years to 1 month with the opening of a new revolver. After the new account landed on my CR, the change to my VS3 was minimal if anything. My TU VS3 and EQ VS3 were both 839 to start. Both dipped down into the mid 820's with different balances reporting when I took on a HP to both TU and EQ (1 apiece). After the new account reported and my balances returned to where they were, both my TU VS3 and EQ VS3 sit at 837 currently. So basically, 1 HP + 1 new account = 2 points loss (for me) on both TU VS3 and EQ VS3. My take on it is that the loss was probably from the inquiry per bureau and that the new account for whatever reason didn't matter score wise. Anyone know any details on how the VS3 algorithm handles new accounts?

I can't see any of my Vantage scores back far enough to double check, but I remember not seeing any real movement on EX VS3 when I reported my first new account in six years last year.

Gotcha, guess perhaps it's not a big deal then. Was your first new account referenced above a revolver as well? I don't know if VS3 has scorecards like Fico does and if scorecard reassignment is a thing for that algorithm or not.

It was a revolver, yeah. I know hardly anything about VS3, but I have wondered before whether it has scorecards, both b/c I didn't see any movement on a new revolver and b/c I've never seen them referenced anywhere.

Well, looking at their scoring criteria the addition of a new account could theoretically fall into the smallest (5%) category. So, if there are no scorecards/reassignment I suppose a minimal drop could make sense.

Look at the graph in my post here: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=154 In the middle it shows where I added Amex and Discover to my file. First dip is from the 2 inquiries and Discover showing up quickly in March (apps on Feb 13 & 14). The next dip is Amex showing up 2 months later. I had only 1yr2mo total revolving credit history at the time, with a total credit file history of 2yr2mo, so this is probably why I saw larger score drops. Even so, score recovery is fast with VS3, happening at the AoYA 3mo mark.

Good info, so VS3 is less sensitive to new accounts and inquiries and more resilient / quicker recovery from them as well relative to Fico, generally speaking.

Also there’s no customization per bureau with Vantagescore, IIRC. Therefore if the data is the same the score should be the same is my understanding.

This has always been the case for me - all VS3s matched for the first 1yr2mo of my revolving history since there was 1 inquiry on each bureau and both my cards reported equally to all 3 bureaus. Today I have 2 inquiries under 2 years at EX only (1yr5mo old), so that EX VS3 score is -2 points from EQ/TU which have 0 inquiries under 2 years.

That would give an interesting opportunity to be able to determine the magnitude of point costs for various actions, such as in inquiries.

VS3 didn't flinch after all of my new accounts and inquiries this year until balances started reporting and even then, my lowest VS3 is still 809 on TU. EQ and EX are both 814 (they're thicker than TU because TU is missing some student loans that report on those).

Cool, another vote for stable VS3 then. Agreed that balances seem to be the biggest driving force for score fluctuations.

My VS3s are more stable than my FICO 8s are. My VS4 was pretty stable too but now that I closed my last Sync card I won’t have the ability to check anymore.

Yeah I found VS4 to be rock solid. The most I was ever able to get my VS3 to move was I believe 13 points and that was going from something like AZEO with a tiny balance to all accounts with balances and somewhat heavy reported dollars. VS4 though never moved more than 5 points.

I have definitely rode the VS3 roller-coaster (SO, too). Violent swings in score change, but things have simmered down some.

I also concur that utilization or balance changes made score fluctuate some.

SO got a -9pt ding on both TU and EQ for suddenly reporting 80% util. I found it interesting the penalty was the exact same for both bureaus. Now, for VS3.0 purposes, SO has CAs on both TU and EQ. TU has a $97 CA that I disregard for Fico 8/9 scoring purposes.

I will be curious to see what changes on the VS front when we finally get around to PFDing it.
