Waypoint?

So I just got a collection notice from Waypoint saying I have 30d to pay $161 for an old Comcast bill before they report to the bureaus. I find this odd because I got Comcast service over 2 years ago and when I signed up (and like previously when signing up) they make you pay any past due balance before establishing service with them again. I will have to dig through my records, ASAP, but does anyone have experience or knowledge about Waypoint? It is definitely outside SOL and I last had service with Comcast in 2014+/-. So, not sure why there was no disclaimer about not reporting old debt, but they claim they will report after 30d from notice, which was 7/27/21. Also, the last CA that had this account came off my credit reports right after I re-established service with Comcast 2+ years ago....meaning again, I believe the balance was paid and they removed the CA at that time. I will also look at the old credit reports that had the old Comcast CA to see what the DoFD/estimated date of removal was. @BrutalBodyShots @Birdman @Allzero @Slabenstein

Sorry, I am not familiar with Waypoint. I can't offer any insight. I don't know how Comcast deals with their charge offs or collections.

Interesting that there is no disclaimer on the collection notice. If it's that old I would guess it's a zombie debt or a zombie debt collector? Even if they can report, they wouldn't be able to keep it on there that long if it exceeds DoFD exclusion date.

@LaHossBoss were you able to dig up any records? If Comcast policy is to make you pay past debt before opening an account, then I think you may be in the clear?

If it is outside SOL and they did not put a disclaimer, that may be a violation of the FDCPA and may entitle you to a recovery amount, IIRC. Don’t quote me on that but look it up I think it may be a violation.

So, I am in quite a bind now.

I did not get them in the phone within the 30d to get everything straightened out. Am I screwed?

If I can get them on the phone in the AM, do we think it is too late and they will post to the 3Bs? I am petrified that is the case. I have worked so hard to let some small, random bill (that I believe was paid), will rock my credit profile all over again.

My thoughts are it is at least 7+ years old or at a minimum, very close. I suppose I could wait it out again, but that is very depressing after coming so far! I still meed to verify if it was paid when I restarted service, because that has been the case previously, and makes perfect sense....no new account without settling the past due account first.

So I did contact Comcast after posting, but after hours there was little info. The rep did agree with me, though, that no service should have been started without paying the past due. It would be highly unusual to start new service with an outstanding balance at an old address. He also stated he saw no account for my old address or a balance, so it sounds like it has in fact been paid. I am a little leery about that in case they sold my avcount to a CA instead of just hiring a CA to help them collect on it. I did check my account and unfortunately, there are only 2 years worth of bills, so Sept was the oldest bill I could view. Same with payment history - it only goes back 2 years. I did so happen to save a copy of my e-statements, so I did find my first bill, but it shows only the service for the address and not how much I paid for starting service. Bummer! I do have a number to contact them tomorrow, and I will first chance I get. It can be pretty rough making call during business hours when working nights. I have so many things to do and very little time haha! Fingers crossed it was a misunderstanding and it in fact was paid. I also noted that after starting up service again, the Comcast CA came off all my CRs, which I also believe to be a sign that it was paid. It seems to coincidental to just fall off right at the same time as I started service again... I am going to dog around and see if I can find the DoFD for the CA before it aged off, but it may have been before I started checking my CRs regularly.

Only info I could find on an old Experian report was that the CA was opened 2/2018.

Last I recall having Comcast was between 2012-2014, but I could have swore I had DirecTV last in 2014 and not Comcast. I definitely had no cable service between 2015-2019. So, it would have had to have been 2012-2013...which is beyond 7 years...I am just so confused!

It sounds like they’re trying to collect an old debt. If it’s beyond seven years they’re just trying to scare you. I wouldn’t be scared. Can’t report. And if they do you have a remedy.

Anyway, Waypoint added themselves onto my CRs today, dropping my EX 22 pts to 682...infuriating!

EX claims a on record until date of 2/2023, which is frankly, impossible. They build in 2 or 3 months of EE and I was already outside NM on those dates. I did not have Comcast and verified with them that I had no balance owed or previous balance that went to collections. So I am basically screwed now until 2023. Figures, that is always how it works for me. Right when I was about to havs a clean slate in just a few months. I could cry right now!

Welcome back @LaHossBoss ! No way...2023!??!?! It always felt good to read about your steady, positive updates over the last year, so this feels like driving off a cliff. Hopefully the car lands on Waypoint.

Wait, if Comcast can verify you don't/didn't have a deliquency then why is this on your report? Can't you dispute it? Do you have the info. from Comcast verifying you have a 0 balance? Save everything....SS everything...and dispute the hell out of it! And yes!...right when your reports are taking the most positive turn that's when you'll see these bottom dwellers come out of the wood work to hamper your efforts, to gain the most odds of collecting to make "them" go away. Sickening!

Ugh, so sorry to hear about this. Totally devastating! I agree with GApeachy, dispute your pants off because it's not right that you're getting screwed when you don't have a bill!

Hey everyone! So it cropped up on TU as well and kicked me down 34 pts. Ugh! I did dispute it with both EX and TU. EX came back same day and deleted it I am still waiting on response from TU. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop and it pop up on EQ. Fingers crossed it all comes out ok! @Birdman @GApeachy @Saeren @Cassie @Kkboom
