Are freeze lifts immediate?

So if you've got your reports frozen and you lift the freeze, does it happen immediately?

For example, I just did a temporary lift on mine selecting the date range from today 9/8/21 to 9/10/21. Do I have to wait until tomorrow for the reports to be accessed, or are they good to go today right away?

A guess a good follow up question would be on the other end, does the lift go away at the end of 9/10/21?

Found a partial answer when lifting my TU freeze... it says it's effective 15 minutes after. I'd imagine the others are similar, but would like to know for sure.

I would use prequalification sites to test it. It seemed instant when I unfroze my report to check a few companies prequals a few days ago, but I don't have hard data points.

Not a bad idea, although I'm not sure which prequal sites use which bureaus. I'd imagine EX for Amex since that's relatively universal from what I understand, but for TU/EQ I'm not really sure what to go with.

Comenity has a few cards you could check. Might have to test, then check your report for soft pulls, and test again? That might be more work that it is worth. I will test for myself as I am curious. I live in Minnesota so it may be different than who they pull for you.

I guess I can just try a bunch of site from which I know I typically get prequals from and see if any return no results. If I try a bunch I'd imagine the probability of each bureau being touched would be pretty good.

Not really getting much back. BoA was the only one that showed me prequals, but they don't really look legit since it more or less lists what appears to be nearly all of their cards.

No offers back from Cap One, Amex, Wells Fargo or Discover. A couple gave me an error processing request type response that I would think is indicative of not being able to access a CR.

Guess lifting a freeze may not be near-instant after all?

Also a bit strange, I cannot access the Chase prequal site. When I try to go to it (the one with prequal in the url) it just takes me to the regular credit cards site that has nothing to do with prequals. I wanted to try Chase since they've always got prequals listed for me.

With Creditscorecard, one can not access your score/report if your Experian is frozen. I haven't checked mine in a while so not sure if it's only monthly report being offered?

Experian.com won't display credit card offers of reports are frozen.

Maybe annualcreditreport.com if you haven't used your weekly pull?

Pre-qual sites seems like the logical choice if you are trying to check the freeze status periodically.

The BoA site is more of a card recommendation site. I don't think they SP the reports.

Just got a fresh pull on EX for creditscorecard, so it looks like I'm good there. I didn't realize that I hadn't logged in over there since June.

Was able to pull all 3 reports from ACR, so maybe I'm good to go? Also as a fun note for someone that always has suffix issues, ACR gives a drop down list of suffixes far superior to any other that I've encountered! See below:

Experian and Equifax tend to be lifted as soon as you submit the requests but I’ve had TransUnion take awhile. Wait until you get the email confirmation from them and that’s when it’s lifted.

ACR has never required me to lift my freeze. Since you’re going through the companies directly with ACR just connecting you to each of their servers, there is no need to lift freezes.

Same here. All 3 frozen since March 2020 and I've pulled a lot of 3-bureau ACRs since then.

Maybe clarification is in order. One can pull. But if frozen, ACR should state a freeze is in place in the report. However, I haven't tested on a temporary thaw.

I should be good then, I got the TU email not long after the request was made. I think it's kind of funny how EQ sends a snail mail confirmation of a lift... seems a bit outdated.
