I think it has to do with the "binning" of inquiries. My take is that using your example, the first bin for TU is 0-1. If there are people out there that have seen a score drop on TU8 for a single inquiry, perhaps we should then look to scorecards and possibly the binning is scorecard dependent.

Any time someone doesn't see a score drop from the addition of an inquiry, maybe we should take note of the movement in number of inquiries as well as the scorecard. For example, if someone moves from 2 --> 3 scoreable inquiries on EQ and sees no drop, maybe we can theorize that that 2-3 is a "bin" (possibly 0-1, 2-3, 4-5, etc for example).

Ok, makes sense. TU went from 2 > 3 on a PR scorecard EQ went from 4 > 5 on a PR scorecard I am thinking they are all considered "recent" PR scorecards, even though both are near the end of the 7 year reporting window.

Gotcha. I would try to pick the brains of others that are on a PR scorecard to see what they've noticed from moving from X --> Y inquiries and see if you can conclude any similarities/patterns.

I think in general it would be a good idea to report this, regardless of scorecard.

Maybe we should have a "Points lost per inquiry..." type master thread, where any time someone takes a HP that's isolated they can post that they moved from X --> Y inquiries and lost Z points. In any situation where Z = 0, we can take note of the X and Y values as well as scorecard. Over time we should be able to compile some pretty solid data in such a thread and be able to better estimate the impact (or lack of) taking on a future inquiry.

I went from 4 > 5 inq

And lost -2pts for the new inq

PR scorecard

When I went from 4 > 5 inq on EQ (PR scorecard), I lost -6pts.

BBS explained very well, that’s exactly right. There is a terminal number I believe where it ends somewhere around 10 but he is correct with the binning. And his idea is something that I wanted to do for a while, just never got around to doing because yes it is different by scorecard.

We need to make a thread for each Scorecard under new credit for inquiries and then whatever Scorecard you’re on, you can go there and contribute data points until we can establish all the bins for each of the cards, imho.

For sure, that would be great data to have. We'd be able to hammer down with deadly accuracy the potential impact of an inquiry... be it 0 points, 6 points, etc. based on scorecard and number of scoreable inquiries already present. Fortunately there aren't a lot of moving parts here and with so few variables it would be pretty easy to log strong data.

So, quick update, not sure why, but EX dropped off my 2/22/2020 inquiry from Cap One already!

I got a +5pt gain. I will have to do some digging, but if I remember correctly, I did not lose any points when I took the HP....

Unless there is another vhange I am not accounting for, but there is nothing I can really see. My USB Cash+ util went down 1%, but it did not come close to crossing any thresholds or raw $ amounts that I can see.

My last inquiry on EX cost me -2pts, from what I can see above. This has me curious and wanting to investigate a bit further for any other changes. Unless it is a combo with an aging metric increase?

Edit: it looks like my AAoA, according to Experian is 8y6m. Maybe that is the increase I am seeing? +2 for inq and +3 for age?

EX has been known to drop inquiries early. It happens to me every year and I have even pulled reports to verify it isn't just CMS fluff.

So the general idea of this thread seems great and I will start contributing my findings. But we should be clear on what we are counting. FICO scores are only affected by inquiries up to one year old. They stay on the report for approximately another year (give or take a bit, depending on bureau), but they don't affect any FICO score in any way beyond the first year. Right? So your scorable inquiries are a good amount lower than some of the numbers you mentioned in this thread, right @LaHossBoss? And the dropping of a 2-year-old one is a non-event for scoring.

Are you taking into account 30 day buffering for those on the last two? (if they were coded as loan/credit union maybe?) @lahossboss And yes you should get no points for an inquiry aging off, only when becoming unscoreable at 365 days.

@Birdman , I considered that after I typed it up. It must have been either hitting AAoA of 8y6m and/or new accounts turning 3m? I think it is usually 6m for new accounts to gain points, but I am on a PR scorecard, so it may not apply.
