I noticed today that one of my posts includes something I didn’t put there. I used a common abbreviation — it happened to be the name of other place — and the text now appears with a box around it, some yellowish shading, and a superscript question mark. In other words, it looks like a button. So, naturally, I tapped on it. (I use the PWA app on mobile, in case that matters.) That caused a definition of the abbreviation to pop up. This particular definition made me chuckle. I like it, Cassie ! This could be a great way to make the content here more comprehensible to people who aren’t yet steeped in all the jargon we use. If we lower the barriers to entry, perhaps more people will enter. :clap:

I do like the idea, especially if it is auto-enabled for new members. I don't know how I feel about it being a requirement though / think there should be a way to turn the feature off should someone decide they don't need it.

Yes, it should be an option for sure. I have a bunch of new options to add in that database, but first I have to finish the new User Control Panel. @Justaguy : I originally put 'Samuel L. Jackson quote' in there for that one. lol

It's not in the config to enable it for normal registered users. It gets turned off for anyone registered and at 10 posts or above. If you browse the site without logging in, you'll see the acronym ? marks on some posts. That will help all the people reaching us for the first time through search. I have a new feature in the pipeline that shows a button below a post that contains acronyms. Tap it and a list will show with definitions for everything in the post.
